Chocolate Croissant (Pain Au Chocolat), The Midwife & The Baker, two

The perfect croissant is buttery, flaky and made in the traditional French way with a whole lot of love. So here at Zero we went on a challenge to find the perfect croissant made in the Bay Area, thousands of miles away from the shores of France. We found not only the best croissant but also the best Pain Au Chocolat aka Chocolate Croissant! And this one from The Midwife and the Baker is pretty damn good. Beautifully laminated with layers of butter and with a perfect flake, we know you’ll indulge in this croissant for a moment of heaven. Inside is that vault of chocolate that oozes out when you bite down, creamy and packed full of cacao without overwhelming. Each order is for two perfectly formed chocolate croissants.

You guessed it, this duo are one Midwife, Jaime and one Baker, Mac. Two of the oldest professions in the world. These two relish working with their hands. Mac lives and breaths bread and graduated from The San Francisco Baking Institute. Mac says “It's simple. I like taking the whole berry, grinding it, fermenting it, and turning it into a highly digestible, beautiful bread." Based in Mountain View, California, Zero is bringing these breads to the Bay Area and beyond.

Buying this products stops 8oz of plastic entering our beautiful oceans

I love waking up on a Saturday and all the groceries I need are just there. It makes brunch so simple, so easy.

Michelle, Redwood City

I go to work leaving the kitchen empty. Before I’d have to stress about doing a run to the store after work. Now I come home and the pantry is stocked, the fridge is full. It’s truly magical.

Osifunke, San Francisco

It’s just so fricking easy, simple and I am saving money. And no plastic?! Who’d have thought?

Frequent asked questions

How does the Zero system work?

Zero couldn’t be easier! Buy a subscription for $25 a month and get to shopping. Select in our online store at which items you want as weekly refills. Checkout online for those items, a full size of each (e.g. sugar is 16oz). Each week our milkwomen will come by, enter your home and refill your groceries with our trusted carts, live in your kitchen! You will only get charged for what we dispense.

How do I checkout for my first grocery shop?

Once you have purchased subscription at, you can place your first grocery order. By purchasing, you are signalling what you require as weekly refills. We will then come by every week and refill those items.

How do you know what to refill?

We always fill a jar right back up to the top. If sugar is 16oz, and only 1oz has been used, we will refill 1oz and charge you for 1oz of sugar. Likewise, if you used all 16oz, we will refill all 16oz, right back to the top.
